A beautiful and highly characterful vintage Qashqai tribal rug from southern Iran, hand knotted in wool on a cotton foundation.

This striking Qashqai displays the bold geometric drawing and vibrant colour palette for which these wonderful tribal rugs are renowned. The rich red ground is beautifully complemented by deep indigo, turquoise, orange, ivory and other vibrant natural-looking tones, with an expressive combination of geometric motifs, boteh forms and traditional tribal symbols throughout the design.

Hand knotted at approximately 36 KPSI, the rug has the wonderfully individual character and subtle irregularities that make genuine tribal rugs so appealing. Rather than being perfectly uniform like a modern workshop rug, the design has been drawn by hand, giving this piece its unique personality and authentic Qashqai character.
